Catechism Review & Prayer: A Monastic Psalm
Objective: Review the Church's structure and pray in the manner of the monks.
Begin as the monks began their hours: with a Psalm. Pray together a few verses of Psalm 95 (the 'Venite'), the traditional opening of the monastic day: 'Come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.' Then quickly review from Monday: Who is the visible head of the Church? (The pope, successor of St. Peter.) What is the special mission of the laity? (To make the world holy from within.) What three vows do many religious take? (Poverty, chastity, obedience.) Praying a Psalm aloud connects you to the unbroken chant of the monasteries.
Discussion Questions

- 2Which of the three religious vows would you find hardest, and why?
